Systems for defense and security

Dual-use technologies for defense and security, currently under development: rapid-response propulsion and unmanned platforms. They will be made available exclusively to authorized government and defense entities — in Italy and on international markets — on a contractual basis, subject to end-user verification and in compliance with export control.

ARES variant

Propulsion · rapid response
CAD model render — ARESCAD model render

ARES is the rapid-response, long-storable propulsion variant of the AETHER B engine, for defense applications, currently under study. Solid- or storable-liquid-propellant, it is designed to be sealed and storable for years, with rapid start-up and reduced maintenance.

The architecture is deliberately simple and robust — with no turbopumps in the solid case — with design requirements that include resistance to launch shock, reliable ignition after long storage and rapid thrust-vector control. These are design targets, not performance that has already been qualified.

The ARES variant and its defense configurations are supplied exclusively to authorized government and defense entities, on a contractual basis and in compliance with export-control regulations (dual-use goods and defense materials). Technical details are confidential and shared only under a Non-Disclosure Agreement.

02

Unmanned platforms for defense

The ARGUS family brings the same on-board autonomy to defense and security use: long-endurance aerial reconnaissance (ARGUS R), underwater surveillance and port security (ARGUS X), and the defense variant of the micro-quad (ARGUS Z-M).

Defense configurations — sensors, protected communications and dedicated capabilities — are handled separately and supplied on a contractual basis to authorized parties.

03

Responsibility & export control

We operate as an international dual-use company within a clear compliance framework. Defense supplies are made only to authorized entities, subject to end-user verification, in compliance with the multilateral control regimes (Wassenaar Arrangement, MTCR), with the legislation of the country of origin — Reg. (EU) 2021/821 on dual-use goods and Italian law on defense materials — and with the rules in force in the country of destination, including applicable restrictive measures.

The micro-quad in its defense configuration: the design provides for autonomous navigation in GPS-denied environments, a protected jam-resistant link, and onboard thermal classification of contacts. It will be supplied exclusively to authorized entities, on a contractual basis.

Frequently asked questions

The most searched answers
What is the ARES variant?

ARES is the rapid-response, long-storable propulsion variant of the AETHER B engine, intended for defense and currently under development. With solid or storable-liquid propellant, it is designed to be sealed and storable for years, with rapid start-up and reduced maintenance: these are design targets, not qualified performance.

Who does EMT supply defense systems to?

Defense systems, when they become available, will be supplied exclusively to authorized government and defense entities, in Italy and on international markets, on a contractual basis, subject to end-user verification and in compliance with the multilateral control regimes (Wassenaar Arrangement, MTCR) and with the applicable regulations on dual-use goods and defense materials.

What does a 'dual-use' company mean?

It means EMT develops technologies usable both in the civil field and in defense and security. Defense configurations are handled separately and supplied only to authorized entities, in accordance with export rules.

Does EMT comply with export control?

Yes. Every defense supply is made in compliance with the international control regimes (Wassenaar Arrangement, MTCR), with Regulation (EU) 2021/821 on dual-use goods in the country of origin, with Italian defense-materials legislation and with the rules applicable in the country of destination, including restrictive measures and sanctions regimes in force. Every request undergoes compliance screening and EMT reserves the right to refuse non-compliant requests.

Which ARGUS platforms are planned for defense?

The defense configurations of the ARGUS family: long-endurance aerial reconnaissance (ARGUS R), underwater surveillance and port security (ARGUS X) and the defense variant of the micro-quad (ARGUS Z-M), supplied on a contractual basis to authorized entities.

Are the technical details of the defense systems public?

No. Detailed specifications, the capabilities of the defense variants and component data are reserved and shared exclusively under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), in compliance with export control.

Does EMT work with customers outside Europe?

Yes, it falls within the company's scope. EMT is an international dual-use company and evaluates requests from government and defense entities in any country. Every relationship is preceded by end-user verification and by the necessary export authorizations; requests from entities or countries subject to restrictive measures are not accepted.
